Why Die Hard is the greatest Christmas movie of all time by Em

Every December I have a debate with at least one person on whether Die Hard can be classed as a Christmas movie.

I am here to tell you it is.

It’s set on Christmas Eve, making it the very definition of a Christmas movie. It’s set predominantly at the Nakatomi Plaza building for a company Christmas party. Hans Gruber is essentially Scrooge, his tie costing more than McClane earns in a month. It has miracle after miracle: this is one film that the laws of physics doesn’t apply to.

This is my final point: John McClane would do absolutely anything, including fighting off hordes of murderous terrorists to spend Christmas with his family. Outside of the murdering terrorist angle, a family member trying to get home in time to spend Christmas with their loved ones is the cornerstone of any great Christmas movie.

I rest my case.

Is Die Hard a legitimate Christmas movie? Let me know in the comments below.
