This Christmas Vs My First Christmas by Ailsa

I launched The Big Cheese Making Kit in September 2012 from my spare room. I bought enough ingredients to make 400 Big Cheese Making Kits. I thought that would be plenty to see me through Christmas and into January 2013….that was far from the case!

I launched the Kits on our website www.bigcheesemakingkit.com and www.notonthehighstreet.com on the same day and sales started trickling in immediately. I was making the Kits myself and my the end of the first week I was already starting to struggle and had to get friends in to help me. At one point there was 8 of us in a production line in my dining room trying to keep up!

My estimate of 400 kits quickly became 4,000!

Keeping up with the unexpected demand was very tricky. The hardest thing was trying to get the Kits to the post office. I could often been seen in late afternoon pushing a double buggy up to the post office completely laden down with packages to send!

2014 is quite a different story. Now there is a team of us in the office busily processing orders for our online customers, retailers and overseas distribution.

We’ve extended our range past the original 3 kits to 5 kits (with more in development for next year) and now we also have a lovely offering of Christmas Hampers and gifts on the website.

A nice slick ordering system takes away the need to sit up until 1am making up address labels and having a warehouse also means I no longer have to share my house with mountains of packing material…fingers crossed for a more relaxed Christmas!
