We’ve all got a foodie in our life. Probably more than one these days. We’re not going out as much, we’re staying in and we’re baking, making and cooking. Not just for fun either. It’s all a bit competitive. If it isn’t the Bake Off its Master Chef….and in those early weeks we could all do better than some of them. So Christmas rolls round and what do you buy the foodie in your life?
Not a cookbook; if they are a real foodie they either own a library worth, never look at one or have just been given that very cookbook by someone else.
Not wine or whisky; frankly unless you know exactly which is their favourite and have very deep pockets you are likely to get it very wrong for the foodie with true oenophile passions. There is after all a gaping chasm between what you imagine a good bottle costs and what a good bottle actually costs.
Not a gadget; they’ve probably got all the gadgets they need. Though I was once tempted to buy a ‘Quirky Egg Minder’ for a foodie I knew (after all, it’s easy to lose track of your eggs). This smart egg tray would sync with his phone and let him know when he was running low and when they were going off. Needless to say, I decided against it.
There really only is one thing that a foodie will want to do in the spirit of true joyful competitive cooking. Can you imagine how ridiculously smug the foodie in your life will feel as they serve up their own homemade cheese? To me the Halloumi is the ultimate cheese for the foodie to make. It’s fashionable, it’s great when you have people round and it’s squeaky! What more could the foodie in your life want this Christmas than to be given a Big Cheese Making Kit? Imagine their delight. Each kit makes cheese at least 10 times so it really is the gift that keeps giving!
